The Nesting Ground

We wake to find that Mathias’s condition has deteriorated, his breathing is shallow and he is unresponsive.  The doctor cannot be moved, and unfortunately we cannot stay here.  Doctor Simpson agrees to stay behind and care for Mathias. “You know where to find me,” he states. “Besides Mathias has no chance if left alone.  I will wait here for your return.”  Before parting Dr. Simpson grabs hold of my arm, “Tedesco,” he demands.  “Just promise you will not forget about me?”  I look into the doctors eyes and affirm, “I will not leave you here, I will come back for you.”  With that, Samuel, Josef, Dr.Lutz and myself turn and begin to delve further into the unknown. 

The Nesting Ground

Samuel and I continue to lend aide to Mathias.  However his compromised condition is slowing us down and making this undertaking virtually impossible.  Nevertheless it is agreed upon and we will not abandon him.  Unlike the other tunnels this one offers no threat. “We can rest here for a while,” affirms Samuel,  “but we must resume our quest in a few hours.  Doctor Mathias is not doing very well and we will reassess the situation in a few hours after we have all had a chance to rest.”  No one knows what exists beyond the vents, and if in fact the Cicadas were engineered, that what manner of being created such a beast?
